Funds for the cheque were raised during a memorial bowls day at the Forbes Sports and Recreation Club last month on Saturday, April 13.
Up to 54 players attended the bowls day before heading indoors for a charity auction.
A fundraising raffle was also held in conjunction with the day.
In previous years the Schatz family has held a golf day but this year decided to change to bowls.
The family were unable to host the fundraising event last year when their planned golf day was cancelled due to floods.
It is hoped the event will continue, becoming bigger and better each year.
The late Donny Schatz’ daughter Kasey said the format to the day may change in future years, but like Mr Dunstan, hopes the day will grow in popularity.
Mr Schatz passed away in 1999 from renal failure.
Kasey said the family has previously donated to the Forbes Dialysis Unit but this year decided to donate to CanAssist.
“The Forbes renal unit seems to be well taken care of and nan was just cleared from Breast Cancer, so our goal is to give back what was given to us,” Kasey said.
President of the Forbes Branch of CanAssist Kerry Dunstan described the cheque as being “absolutely magnificent”.
“[With this money we] will be able to help more people in need. The numbers of people that we are helping out are growing all the time,” he said.
Mr Dunstan thanked the Schatz and Andrews families for their effort in organising the day.
To help raise funds for CanAssist, the Forbes Sports and Recreation Club donated $365 – representing all greens fees paid by participants.
