While numbers at the annual gathering are declining, RSL President Michael Walker says it’s good to have a day for Vietnam veterans.
After a short service the attendees went to the Forbes Services Memorial Club for a get-together.
At the service Mr Walker read a speech given at a belated welcome home parade for Australia’s Vietnam veterans.
The speech, published in last Saturday’s Advocate, highlighted some of the experiences unique to Vietnam and returned servicemen from the conflict.
“Although Anzac Day is the biggest commemoration, it’s nice for the local Vietnam veterans to have a day to catch up,” Mr Walker said.
“Each war has been different. From WWI to WWII, Afghanistan and the Gulf, all faced different conditions to what we were confronted with.”
