Red Bend Junior Rugby League’s under 12s and under 14s have already qualified for the season finale on Saturday, September 6, and as many as four other Magpies or Blues teams could join them after this Saturday’s qualifying semi-finals.
The Magpies and Red Bend were strongly represented in both minor and major finals last weekend, and the clubs’ under 16s outfits will go head-to-head at Condobolin’s Pat Timmins Oval on Saturday. The winner will meet Parkes Marist Blue in the grand final.
Forbes Magpies are also in the under 14s final at Condobolin, with another Forbes showdown looming if they get past Parkes Blue.
The Magpies’ women’s league tag team will meet Condobolin on the weekend hoping to earn a grand final against Grenfell.
Red Bend may have a third team to cheer for at West Wyalong if the Blues under 10s can beat Wyalong this Saturday.
Group 11 Lachlan president Trevor Mawhinney said he expects a big crowd at West Wyalong for the competition’s close.
“We had the finals here [at Grenfell] a few weekends back and I think we had about 300 people, so I think the grand finals at West Wyalong could be fairly big. I’d be surprised if they don’t get 500 plus,” he said.
Results involving Forbes teams last weekend were:
