Wait over for class of 2014

Thousands of NSW students learnt of their HSC results yesterday and today the ATAR mark will tell many if they get in to the university course of their choice.

Both Forbes High School and Red Bend Catholic College (RBCC) received strong HSC results.

Forbes High School were one of the public schools named by the Board of Studies for having  one or more students placed on the Distinguished Achievers List honouring students.

Red Bend Catholic College year 12 students were also successful, gaining 36 band sixes across the group. 

Principal of Forbes High School Charles Dwyer congratulated his students on their fantastic HSC marks yesterday.  

“We’re very proud of their efforts and very happy with how the students performed,” he said. 

“It is a reflection of the efforts they have put in throughout the year and their preparation before the exams.

“I would like to thank the teachers and parents for their support throughout the year.”

Principal of Red Bend Catholic College Brother Michael was also thrilled with his student’s results.

“We’re very happy with the results,” he said. 

“They’re well deserved not only for the efforts of the students, but also of the staff.”

While many might feel the weight of the year lifted after today, there will surely be some students disappointed by their mark. 

Trish Martin, director of curriculum at RBCC said students should not be “too despondent”, as the ATAR is just one avenue into a career. 

“Their [students’] future doesn’t rest on the ATAR,” she said. 

“There are many pathways students can take to achieve their short or long term goals.

“This is just one of the stages in their life in terms of their future career path.”

This year, more than 75,000 students sat the HSC, the largest cohort ever and the largest in Australia.

The HSC Results Inquiry Centre hotline 1300 13 83 23 will be open from 9am Wednesday for students with questions about their results.
