Thousands of people turned up to commemorate Anzac Day in Forbes on Saturday on the centenary of the Gallipoli landings and, by most accounts, crowds at both services were the biggest ever.

Major Fletcher Wythes (right) who is part of the Brisbane-based Royal Australian Engineers, made a rare trip back to Forbes on Saturday for the Anzac centenary, joining his dad Bob Wythes at the service at Victoria Park. Major Wythes has been to Afghanistan three times - in 2009, 2011-12 and in 2012-13. The Red Bend Catholic College graduate said it was great to see so many school-aged children at the service.
"They are the ones who are going to keep this going," he said.

Joan Stibbard and her niece Karyn Glennan caught up after Saturday's service. Karyn had official duties at the service as a member of Forbes Town Band.
