The Blayney businessman has pledged to donate $10,000 to a Forbes person or organisation as part of his company’s Random Acts of Kindness project.
Mr O’Brien is seeking applications for the grant and says he hopes anybody who is struggling will not hesitate to apply.
“Our wish is to find the most deserving person or organisation in the community to benefit from the program,” he said.
“It might be someone going through a hardship or a group of people in need.”
The construction company has done business in Forbes for the past six years, which is why Mr O’Brien said he chose to bring his charity project here.
“Forbes has been very good to us and we thought it would be a good opportunity to give back to the community,” he said.
This is the second year that the project has run in the region.
Last year Molong father of four, Matt Knott, was chosen from 17 nominees to receive the donation towards labour and materials for his house.
Matt Knott and his family were selected after a devastating car accident killed his fiance Kelly Landers and her daughter Sevanah Lang on November 11.
Applications for the Random Acts of Kindness project must be emailed to the Forbes Advocate by June 30.
In the submission, applicants must provide their full name, organisation (if affiliated), a photo of themselves or their organisation and a brief explanation of why they would like to win the $10,000 and how they would spend the money.
After all applications are received, the Advocate will publish a summary of each individual application and people will be able to vote for who they think deserves the $10,000.
Voting will be available on the Forbes Advocate website and in print.
Public voting will then close after a fortnight and the finalists will be announced.
The final decision will be made by an independent panel of judges from local community groups in mid July.
Applicants should note that details of their submission will be published in the Advocate during the voting period.
