Twin town rivalry was put aside on Tuesday night, with Forbes and Parkes coming together for a networking night aimed at boosting the economic impact of tourism in the area.

The evening was hosted by Forbes Shire Council at the Forbes Services Memorial Club and local accommodation providers, food outlets, taxi operators and businesses discussed opportunities available during major events such as Vanfest and the Parkes Elvis Festival.
About 50 people attended the event and mayor Phyllis Miller said she was very pleased with the night which facilitated a sharing of ideas.
“It’s all about working together when major events are on and increasing visitors to our town,” Cr Miller said.
“This will not only bring economic value but also enhance our visitors’ stay while in Forbes.”
At the networking evening there were presentations on Vanfest by Kim Fetherston and the Elvis Festival by Emily Mann from Parkes Shire Council.
“It was a very successful night and there were a lot of ideas discussed,” Cr Miller said.
“One of the ideas that will be developed from the night is a discount voucher book to be used locally and given to visitors.
“This will be developed in conjunction with Parkes Shire Council as well as businesses in Forbes and Parkes.
“The networking evening was a great first step in being proactive and I thank everyone who attended.”
