Set for this Saturday, October 10, the annual Spring Races is the perfect chance to have a day out with friends and to make the most of this beautiful warm weather.
“It should be a really lovely day with the way the weather’s been,” Forbes Spring Races organiser Carmen Duffy said.
Along with the five-race program, there’ll be something to keep the whole family entertained including a jumping castle and face painting for the kids.
The ever-growing Fashions on the Field will be one of the major highlights of the day, with $4,500 worth of cash and prizes up for grabs.
Fashions on the Field coordinator Leigh Bartholomaeus said this year’s prize pool is the highest it’s ever been, thanks to their generous sponsors.
“We’re grateful to the sponsors for making it possible,” she said.
Men and women will have the chance to dress up to show their individual style and flair across five prestigious categories including Cutting Edge (ladies 16 years plus), Most Elegant Lady (women aged 18 plus), Tiny Tots (aged three to six), Junior (aged eight to 14), and Best Dressed Gent (aged 16 plus).
Full criteria for each category is available on fliers found around town or on the Forbes Spring Races Facebook page.
Anyone interested in entering Fashions on the Field have the option to pre-register by filling out the form on the back of the flier or by emailing forbesspringraces@gmail.com to get a form.
Entry into the Fashions on the Field is free and worth it with prizes for the top three finalists in each category, including the winners.
“There are fantastic prizes to be won...it’s definitely worth making the effort to win a prize,” Mrs Duffy said.
“Last year we had an amazing response and we’re looking to have the same again this year.”
Preliminary judging for Fashions on the Field will kick off at 2pm with Tiny Tots, followed by Junior (2.10pm), Cutting Edge (2.20pm), Most Elegant Lady (2.35pm), Best Dressed Gent (2.50pm). Three finalists will then be selected from each category with the finalists to be judged in front of the grandstand after the fourth race at approximately 3.45pm.
Marquee and tent sites are available for groups of people to enjoy the day.
Mrs Duffy said they have had a lot of marquee bookings but there’s still plenty of room available if people want to book at the last minute.
“There’s also some nice shady areas if you want to roll out a picnic rug,” she said.
People have the option to bring their own food.
Gates open at 11am with the first race to begin between 1.30pm and 2pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for pensioners and kids under 12 are free. Full TAB and Tote facilities will be on course with food available and a full bar in operation.
