Racing at the Daroobalgie track has been called off after the club broken into.
Everything - from hoses needed to water the track to plastic cutlery - was stolen.
As soon as Michael Robinson from Michael Robinson Real Estate saw the front page of Friday’s Advocate, he wrote out a cheque for $1000 to kick start the club’s recovery fundraising.
The club has also received donations from businesses including Sitetrain and VC Reid as well as an offer from Forbes Services Memorial Club to benefit from its August monthly raffles.
“Local businesses benefit from the visitors this club - and other sporting clubs - bring to town,” Mr Robinson said.
“If more businesses give - regardless of how much - it will benefit a club that is run by volunteers, who buy everything locally.
“It’s for the benefit of the town and the benefit of the kids.
“I hope that other businesses in a financial position to do so will also help. We certainly don’t want to see the club fold.”
Forbes Auto Sports Club committee members were feeling a bit overwhelmed but certainly encouraged by the support.
“Thank you,” Jennifer Horan said. “Any help is really appreciated and will make a lot of kids happy.”
Another club committee spokesperson yesterday said fundraising was approaching $8000 in pledges and more people had offered items including a barbecue.
