For the 21st consecutive year, the NSW Catholic Primary Schools Carnival will be held at Forbes’ home of rugby union, Grinsted Oval.
Three young players from St Laurence’s Catholic School will represent Forbes in the Polding trials; Dominic Calvani, Zach Green and Hayden Morrison.
A team to represent Polding will be chosen from the sides from Armidale, Broken Bay, Lismore, Maitland-Newcastle, and Wilcannia-Forbes taking to the field on Monday.
The MacKillop team will be selected from players in sides from Canberra-Goulburn, Parramatta, Sydney, Wollongong and Wagga Wagga.
A training day organised by NSW junior rugby union will be held on Sunday at 2.30pm, which according to a spokesperson, will be a “wonderful afternoon of development”.
St Laurence’s school will provide a get together for all teams after Sunday’s training, as well as lunch and canteen facilities on Monday.
NSW Junior Rugby has provided great support for the event, and junior rugby development officer Mark de Brincat will be in attendance.
The chosen MacKillop and Polding teams will then attend the NSW PSSA rugby carnival at Mudgee in August.
The Polding team, once selected, will be managed by former Forbes man John Nugent, who now teaches at St Mary’s school in Dubbo.
