Forbes Shire Council is currently updating its SMS Notification Service database as another means of communicating with the community.

The text messages sent will include notifications such as closure of sporting fields, road closures and upcoming events as well as important information during flooding or other emergency situations.
Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said providing this service was another great way for Council to communicate with the community.
“By sending out text messages, it means we can keep residents up to date with the very latest important information,” Mayor Miller said.
If you would like to be included on the SMS Notification Service database, please email your mobile number to Communications Officer Amy Millerd at amy.millerd@forbes.nsw.gov.au or call 6850 2361.
Council will be conducting a test of the service on Thursday, September 1 and is asking residents who receive the message to reply with Y to acknowledge receipt and to confirm they would like to remain on the database.
If you receive the message but would like to be taken off the database, please reply STOP. If you do not receive a message on Thursday and want to be on the database, please email or call the above address or phone number.
Early voting began Monday
Early voting for the NSW Local Council elections began last Monday, August 29, for those people who can’t vote on election day,Saturday, September 10, 2016.
“There is no internet voting for NSW local council elections and you can only vote at the polling places allocated to your council area or ward. So if you can’t vote on September 10 it is important that you plan to vote beforehand,’ said NSW Electoral Commissioner, John Schmidt.
There are 127 pre-poll voting centres across the 76* council areas being managed by the NSW Electoral Commission.
A full list of pre-poll venues for each council with accessibility information is available from the NSW Electoral Commission website.
Forbes residents can pre-poll vote at the council chambers in Court Street, Forbes or the Parkes Region Returning office, Bogan St, Parkes.
NSW Electoral Commissioner, John Schmidt, reminds people who wish to vote by post to apply without delay. “Anyone who wants to apply for a postal vote should do so soon.
While applications close at 5pm on Monday, September 5, people in remote locations with limited mail services need to act quickly in order to receive and return their ballot papers in time.’
Over 56,000 postal vote applications have been received and processed. Everyone who has requested a postal vote should receive their postal vote pack in the next few days.
