Damian Vick’s “The Hunter” will become part of the Somewhere Down the Lachlan sculpture trail after winning the Sculpture Forbes 2016 acquisition prize.

But before the sculpture is acquired, it will be “upscaled” – made larger and taller to suit the planned open location, which could be along Lake Forbes or the river.
The $4000 open prize was awarded to the Mark Maker by Brett ‘Mon’ Garling, currently on display at the Platypus Gallery.
Judge Clive Calder, a sculptor himself, praised the work for its “fantastic” composition.
“I enjoyed the way he sculpted the hands,” Calder said.
“The hands and the negative hand prints reflecting the Aboriginal art.”
Mr Calder said three of the 23 entries stood out when it came to considering the Somewhere down the Lachlan $20,000 acquisition prize.
Those were The Hunter, the Farmer’s Draught by Georgia Morgan and Balance by Harrie Fasher.
Entries remain on show for a month, both in Albion Park and through the CBD.
Locals were represented in the competition – Eugowra’s John Den entered his work, Lachlan Tower.
Mr Den said the sculpture was a one-off venture into the field.
The sculpture features steel reinforcing bars topped with a hand-crafted cube. Mr Den gathered the stones, visiting three different sites to get enough of the right stone, then crafted and polished them into a concrete cube.
