Last year, the Forbes High School Gardening Group and 8SU Agriculture class combined forces to successfully apply for a $400 tree grant from the New South Wales Teachers Federation. 

Students conducted research and selected Lemon Tea Trees as the preferred native plants to improve their school environment because not only are they native, they are known as “mozzie blocker” – mitigating mosquito breeding.

The Tree Levy grant provides funds to the school that can only be used for purchasing native trees and native shrubs. 

The grant cheque and certificate were presented to the school’s Deputy Principal Mr Jason Nottingham by the Federation’s local Branch Councillor at a recent whole school assembly.

Mr Nottingham noted, “that the grant came at a good time and would be used to enhance the school’s grounds as part of an environmental landscaping project about to be undertaken”.
