Holding a special bingo birthday last week at Forbes Services Memorial Club, president Molly Neilsen said the day, which included special bingo games, pick a box and raffles, was a great success.
“Everybody was happy. We served tea and coffee and gave them a piece of the birthday cake,” Molly said.
“Everyone said what a great afternoon it was.”
Molly thanked the Forbes Services for providing the auditorium space free of charge and supplying raffle books and vouchers each month.
“They’re great supporters of us,” she said.
Forbes’ Sunshine Club was founded by Frank Spicer in 1939.
“[The Op Shop] first started in a little room in the back of the Albion Hotel. From there we moved down to where the Forbes Inn is. We had a few floods through that shop so we moved and rented where we are now (Templar Street) for some time, before Far West bought the building.”
A Sunshine Club member for over 50 years and club president for more than 20 years, Molly is passionate about helping out children in need.
“I use to be president out at Jemalong before we moved to town. I’ve been active in here for 20 odd years as president.
“I think about the country children who we are helping all the time,” Molly said.
“I’ve been to the Far West quite a few times and seen the good work they do with children. I love working with our staff, they are all very good, happy and cooperative.”
