The scaffolding went up around the historic building in the last week of January and first week of February, with Australia Post saying it was due for a coat of paint and a new roof.
The top of the clock tower also appears to have been renovated, it’s a shiny copper colour.
An Australia Post spokesperson said the works were part of the organisation’s heritage program, approved by Forbes Shire Council and Heritage NSW.
The heritage team is also looking after the town clock and expect it to be fully operational again shortly after the scaffolding is removed.
Forbes Post Office was built between 1879 and 1881.
The Heritage Council of NSW describes it as a two-storey rendered and painted brick building in the Victorian Italianate style of a grand scale, with Second Empire influence.
The single-storey brick additions were built on the southern corner and eastern side between 1900 and 1913.
