First Baby Boomers Music Festival comes to Forbes

Across three days - Friday October 27 to Sunday October 29 - the festival aims to provide a wide range of live music with hits from five decades.

Music from the 50’s to the 90’s – from Elvis to Johnny Cash, ABBA to Neil Diamond, the Beach Boys, Beatles, Buddy Holly, Johnny O’Keefe and Elton John - will feature at Forbes Services Memorial Club throughout the weekend.

Organiser Stephen Cheney says it all kicks off with FABBA – an ABBA tribute show – on Friday night.

There are two shows planned for Saturday, beginning with the Girl Power of the 70’s and Countdown Years from 1pm. 

Visitors will want to brush off their blue suede shoes before the rock and roll dance night starts at 7:30pm.

Everyone is urged to come dressed to dance in their favourite “Baby Boomer” outfit of the 1970s or 1980s.

This year’s event will wrap up with a Legends show on Sunday morning –  a fundraiser for the Royal Far West children’s charity.

Forbes Services Memorial Club general manager David Fitzgerald says the music festival will start small this year, but he hopes it will expand in future to include more community involvement.

“We’ve sold a couple of hundred tickets for this year already,” he said. 

“We’re hoping next year we’ll be able to get a couple more venues involved.”

From there, it all depends where we want to take it.

Mr Fitzgerald believes there’s scope for everything from a show-and-shine to street parade inspired by the era.

Mr Cheney urged all music lovers to join the fun – it’s all about the music, not your age.

Tickets for the festival are on sale now. Prices range from $30 per show, to $80 which gives access to all of the shows in the festival.

Tickets to Sunday’s fundraiser are separate, a $5 donation to the charity.
