When Camp Street bridge was built in 1927, they could hardly have envisaged that 1280 vehicles – 217 or 218 of them heavy vehicles – would rumble over it every day.

RMS now says the bridge, on the Lachlan Valley Way over Lake Forbes, does not meet current load standards.

Forbes Returned Servicemen’s League sub branch celebrated a centenary with a formal dinner at the Services Memorial Club.

The west’s favourite race caller was named in the Queen’s Birthday honours, receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia, for his service to the horse racing industry.

Mr Fuge joined the Carrawandool Rural Fire Brigade in 1950 and remains a member of the Mid Lachlan Valley team bush fire management committee.

On the Queen’s birthday, he was recognised with the Fire Service Medal.
