Transition to big school begins

Their free Link Up to School program, which has now been running for a number of years, has begun.

Link Up provides children who are eligible to attend school the following year with a year-long transition program.

It is available for children who will be attending Forbes North Primary School.

P and C Committee Member Kate Bilsborough said the program had several benefits for the children including giving them a familiarity with the school environment and helping to further develop social skills.

The transition program focuses on providing children opportunities to practice skills that contribute to them capably and confidently entering the formal phase of education. 

Link Up gives children an extended and gradual orientation into the primary school setting where they can explore the grounds of the new environment, including areas such as the classrooms, school library, play equipment and garden area.

Most importantly the children meet their Kindergarten teachers, giving teachers have more of a chance to prepare their program to meet the individual developmental needs of their new enrolments.

The Link-Up teaching team of Colette Genet-Marks (Teacher), Jodie Markwort (Aboriginal Education Officer) and Wayne Markwort (Learning Support Officer) have a combined experience of more than 25 years facilitating the program.

The program runs every Tuesday during the school term for two hours with two time slots available.

The available timeslots are 9am -11am or 11:30am to 1:30pm.
