A team of 10, in Years 5 and 6, travelled to Dubbo for the David Peachey Shield and Russell Richardson Cup knockout earlier this month.
Although they didn’t make the finals, they’ve been invited back to play in another round robin competition in conjunction with the competition finals in July.
Some of the girls play in the local league tag competition, but the Dubbo event gave them their first chance to play the tackle version of the game, teacher Danielle McManus said.
And they did well!
Ms McManus said the team’s statisticians calculated they had scored 16 tries and had 11 scored against them. They had two wins from their four games.
The girls do have some expert assistance, they’re having weekly training with Magpies first grader Jarrad Tyack and the Markwort brothers Ethan, Kristian and Sebastian.
Tamika Carstairs, who crossed for seven of those tries, said she really enjoyed the game.
