Bedgerabong students bound for Schools Spectacular stage

This year’s extravaganza of entertainment, music and dance involves about 5000 public school students.

It’s been months in the making, and it all comes together in four shows at the Qudos Bank Area at Sydney’s Olympic Park on November 23 and 24. 

The students from Bedgerabong will be part of the combined dance section, titled Aussie Exports, along with students from other rural schools including Bathurst. Calare, Cowra and Gulgong.

Their preparation has been remote over many lunchtimes, with two trips to Cowra to meet with other students. 

As well as saluting some great Australian icons, the colourful Aussie Exports segment also highlights the talents of students from regional public schools.

Aussie Exports uses the music of Kylie Minogue (Can’t Get You Out of My Head), Guy Sebstation (Bloodstone) and Keith Urban (The Fighter).

The local students have been working with Alison Buckley, one of three choreographers with special links to regional NSW who have devised this routine, Aussie Exports for dancers from regional and rural schools across the state.

Ms Buckley who is making her debut as a Schools Spectacular choreographer, has been involved with the huge show since the Year 2000 and began her involvement with Cowra High at Spec in 2011.

“I am so excited and privileged to be involved as a choreographer for the first time,” Ms Buckley said.

“The regional students are passionate and understand that they have to work hard as the face to face time as a whole segment is only days prior to the show.

“The teachers in our regional segments are also extremely invested and give up a lot of their personal time to make sure that every student learn,  remembers and refines the choreography.”

This year the Schools Spectacular involves 40 featured performers, a 100-piece symphony orchestra, stage band, 2700-voice choir and over 2300 dancers.
