He had not worried as all players were able to finish their 18 holes 'dry' before a deluge hit the district around an hour later dropping over one inch of water which will further enhance the reputation of the Forbes course as one of the best in the district.
“We were lucky with the weather but I believe it did stop of few from playing as it didn't look all that flash early in the day,” Alf, who also sponsored with runner-up hams along with Geoff Drane, said.
Assisting with presentations was Selwyn Bale, Forbes store manger for the Bernardi group of supermarkets.
“I must thank Bernardi's for their continued support, something that they have done for the three or four years. The Bernardi family are strong in their backing for a host of different events in town,” Alf said.
Regular veteran players from Forbes and Parkes were joined by four local ladies playing as non vets who figured in the trophies. “How good was it to see the ladies out having a hit with us, and they went OK as results show,” Alf added.
Hamper winners were Ken Sanderson (36 points) in A grade while new comer to the vets ranks Bede Tooth (39 points) took out B grade.
Runners-up were, A grade Kerry Stirling (34 points) while in B grade it was Enid Baker (37 points). Winner of the ham in the non-vets competition was the very much in-form talent Stewart French with the best score of the day, 41 points.
Being a 'festive event' all players received a 'burner' ball while no encouragement award was presented however records show John Whatmore of Forbes and Parkes visitor Roel ten Cate had it between them.
Nearest the pins, 9th A grade Phil Bishop (Parkes), B grade nil, 18th A grade John Pearce (Parkes), B grade Enid Baker (Forbes).
Twin Town veteran golfers play 18 holes on Thursday in Parkes which will combine with their Christmas party and announcement of yearly awards.
Christmas was also the feel for Tuesday social golfers last week where organisers Geoff Drane and Geoff Coles welcomed all players to their 'roast dinner' where it was announced that Viv Russell may have created a record scoring 44 points over the 12 hole competition to win last week.
“It's been a good year for Tuesday golf, the dinner was great and to have Viv finally get a win after a run of runner-ups highlighted how good this social sporting event has been,” Geoff Drane said.
Runner-up last Tuesday was Brian Clarke with 33 points in a field of 20 players. Tuesday golf again today with ball toss at 9am for playing partners.
