The 2019 State Championships are being hosted at the showground in the northern New South Wales town of Murwillumbah. The championships began today, Friday, January 25 and will run until Sunday, January 27.
The event has attracted 140 competitors from NSW and 18 competitors from Queensland with all riders competing aged between seven and 24 years of age.
Olivia rides a Thoroughbred Cross Quarter horse named Waddy in most of her events which includes dressage and show riding events.
She has been involved in competitions since she was nine and riding horses since she could walk giving her confidence that she and her horse can perform well.
This year, Olivia will be competing in the 13-15 year old age group, an age group she believes will be extremely competitive.
“The 13 to 15 age group is always a big one, but I’m super excited to compete at Murwillumbah and I think we will do really well as Waddy has been nothing short of perfect lately,” she said.
The three day event will start with two days of show riding and finish up with the dressage championships.
During show riding events the horse is judged on conformation, paces and manners, whilst riders are judged on their riding ability.
Dressage events include tests where a sequence of movements are designed to show the suppleness, obedience and strength of the horse. Riders are judged on their ability to perform in harmony with their horse.
The most successful riders in each age group will be awarded the 2019 Age Champion award.
