Thirty-one residents of The Mater moved to their new home at the extended Edward Street premises last Wednesday.
Evelyn Quade, Residential Manager of Jemalong Residential Village, said it all went smoothly and everyone was settling in well when the Advocate visited to have a look at the extension on Friday.
“We thank our staff across the organisation together with residents’ families who were instrumental in helping the move go so smoothly,” Ms Quade said.
“All our residents were moved safely to their new home.”
Staff have also transitioned over to Jemalong Residential Village.
Commissioning and Integration Manager Anne Maree Hodgson thanked all those involved.
“We are incredibly grateful for the expertise, care and commitment of the teams at The Mater and Jemalong who made this move a great success and are now settling in our residents to make them feel at home,” she said.
The expansion of Jemalong Residential Village includes an additional 39 accommodation places.
Each of the existing wings has been extended and connected by a number of rooms.
The extension also includes the refurbishment of activity spaces, dining areas, courtyards, chapel and more. There are picturesque new gardens and rotundas as well as indoor areas.
The Mater has now been closed. The building on the corner of Prince Street was previously Brentwood Private Hospital and became the Mater Misericordiae in 1950.
