Forbes Mayor Phyllis Miller and General Manager Steve Loane are working to re-establish the Group 10 of the Murray Darling Basin Association, representing the vast region incorporating the Lachlan, Darling and Macquarie rivers.
The association, which is not to be confused with the Murray Darling Basin Authority, is local government's representative body and voice on Basin issues.
Our region has been defunct for a couple of years, Mayor Phyllis Miller said, but it needs to be up and running.
Mayor Miller and Forbes Shire Council General Manager Steve Loane have been tasked with making that happen, they'll be approaching the affected councils with a view to having an AGM within a couple of months.
Region 10 covers a vast geographical area, from east of the ACT to the northern State border.
It's a big region with big issues ranging from water buybacks to the Menindee fish kills, Mayor Miller says, and it's vital local government's voice is heard.
"The starting point is to get all the eligible councils in the room and tell them the benefits," Mayor Miller said.
They already have the backing of Dubbo Council, with the offer of a venue and secretariat support.
