Forbes sporting news | Two teams from the women's bowling travelling to Cowra on Thursday, June 27 for charity fun day.

Game two Jan Waugh, Carmel Murray and Noela Girot won 17 / 9 against Colleen Liebich, Lynn Wilding and Alice Allen.

Game three, Loris Stewart, Lesley Dunstan and Anne Nixon 23 /4 against Kay Toohey, Lynn Elliott, and Irene Riley.

Due to the heaviest fog this winter veteran golfers had a rare opportunity last Thursday to hit the ball out of sight as they contested the Lachlan Valley monthly 18 hole competition in Parkes.

Teeing off at 10am 61 very keen golfers not only had to battle the short sighted distances with the thick fog only lifting around midday but also the extreme cold and damp of the morning which saw results way above the average with only a couple of players matching their handicaps.

Lachlan Valley A grade scratch winner was Phil Bishop from Parkes with 80 from Barry Shine (Forbes) on 86.

B grade winner was Dale Stait (Parkes) with 90 off the stick from Max Haley (Forbes) 91 while in C grade Harry Rowlings (West Wyalong) was best with 97 from Robert Lea (Parkes) 99.

In handicap Ian Phipps (Parkes) won A grade with 73 nett from Anton Archibald (West Wyalong) 76.

In B grade it was Ross Smith (Parkes) with 72 nett from Phil Kimber (West Wyalong) 76 while in C grade Graham Cooke (Parkes) won with 72 nett from Rod Luyt (Parkes) 74.

Two grades contested the stableford competition with Linda Glasgow (West Wyalong) winning A grade with 31 points from Alf Davies (Forbes) with 30 points on a count-back.

In B grade Mick Bond (Parkes) won with 35 points from Forbes 'super vet' John Whatmore on 32 points. Tom Edols took the encouragement award on a count-back with many playing way below their handicaps.

Nearest the pins, 4th hole, A grade Anthon Archibald (W/W), B grade Allan Luff (Cowra), 11th hole, A grade Phil Bishop (Pks), B grade nil.

In the Geoff Coles/Miller Shield Parkes with 18 representatives to choose their best three scores came out on top with 108 from Forbes (13 players) 94, West Wyalong (11) 92, Condobolin (11) 85, Cowra (4) 59 and Grenfell (2) 55.

Only three Forbes players figured in the ball sweep, John Whatmore with 32 points and Max Haley and Geoff Haley on 31 points.

Forbes and Parkes vets will converge on Forbes this Thursday for play over 12 holes with noms from 12.30pm for a 1pm shot gun start.

Big news for regular players in the Tuesday competition came last week with organiser Geoff Drane stating that a Christmas In July luncheon will be held at the 'Bowlie' after play on Tuesday July 2.

"We will be inviting 'Algie' Crowe as guest to come along as he ran the Tuesday comp for years and all we have done is continue his outstanding works," Geoff said.

Last week 15 played over 12 holes with leftie Garry Collits best with 27 'cool' points from a foursome of players on 26 points including Terry Shannon, Dennis Cully, Barry Parker and Geoff Drane.

All golfers, young and old, female or male, are invited to play any Tuesday with assemble at 9am for a 9.30am shot gun start.

Short Putt's Mate

The Forbes Netball Association recently held the finals of the Autumn Night competitions for mixed and ladies teams.

Ladies final

The Ladies final was a powerful display of netball from Hughes and Co, who won the game against Minor Premiers Forbes Engineering 37-18.

Hughes and Co took control of the game from the first whistle, winning the first quarter by 12-6.

Engineering fought back in the second quarter to nearly equal the goal count but could not peg back the difference.

Circle defender Nicole Mee dominated the defence end for Hughes and Co, with Kate Loneragan both shutting down the Forbes Engineering attack.

The third quarter Hughes and Co again dominated, with shooter Shannon Hurley extremely accurate and helped by Steph Hughes, to make the goal count for the quarter 10-3 to Hughes and Co.

Forbes Engineering shooter Brianna Duncan was very accurate throughout the game, and keeper Sophie Robinson held strong defence over the shot.

Forbes Engineering never gave up trying, but could not match the streamline netball played by Hughes and Co.

Mixed final

The Mixed final was won by NSG to Postie from Minor Premiers Aggies by 29-17.

The players were very enthusiastic, and both teams played with lots of energy and passion, and the score line did not reflect the physicality of the game.

NSG to Postie won the first quarter by 7-4, and continued to draw slightly ahead in the second quarter, with the half time score being 14-9.

Postie's Isaac Stewart showed excellent ball skills and Sam Smith also helped to lead the way for his team.

Aggies centre Daniel Ashcroft dominated for his team, and Georgie Price and Chelsea Madden never gave up trying.

NSG to Postie's shooter Jordon Gaffney had an accurate shooting game for her team helping to keep them in the lead.

The third quarter was dominated by NSG to Postie, winning the goal count by 7-2. Aggies again fought back in the final quarter, with the goal count 8-6 to Postie.

Best and Fairest Awards

Best and Fairest Awards were presented to one player in each division.

This award is judged by the umpires each week, and totalled at the end of the competition.

The Ladies competition Best and Fairest Award was won by Lauren Bate.

The Mixed competition Best and Fairest Award was won by Daniel Ashcroft.

Spring Night competitions 2019

The Spring Night competitions for both Mixed and Ladies teams will be started in August.

Team nominations will close on August 15, and the grading games will be played on August 21.

The first round of the competitions will be played on August 28 with the Finals to be played on November 27.

The competitions will not be played during the school holidays.

Finals will be played between the two top teams on the point score ladder.

Players who are already registered with NNSW and FNA will only need to pay the competition levy set by the committee.

Forbes Squash Club returns to the courts this week.

The formula will be a two division Competition played on Wednesday and Thursday Evenings, over eleven weeks total, beginning Wednesday June 26 at 6 pm.

This comp will involve a mid term break to allow for our annual Championships, and then continue on with the second half.

Two nights of grading were held last week for any new players and those returning after a longer break.

After which a grading meeting was also held to determine player rankings as well as team positions, based on results from recently held grading nights and our last competitions.

Placements are also flexible due to a player's personal preferences regarding particular nights of play.
