The 19-year-old was drafted by Richmond with its third selection in the AFLW draft last year.
The former GWV Rebel played three games for the Tigers last year and showcased her determination and running in a young midfield group.
Richmond's Head of Women's Football Kate Sheahan thanked Wood for her contribution to the club.
"We wish Ella all the best for the next chapter, as she focuses on spending time with her loved ones back home in Ararat," Sheahan said.
"She has been a much-loved member of our inaugural AFLW side and we are hopeful that she will return to the game in the future when she is ready."
