Saturday's cold and windy weather couldn't stop the Forbes rugby community showing up and digging deep in a show of support for one of their own - long-serving volunteer and committee member, former president Tracey Prior.
Tracey, on hand to draw the winning tickets in the day's fundraiser raffle, said she really appreciated everyone's support.
"There's a lot to be said about rugby and the rugby community, it's great to be part of when the chips are down, thanks so much," she said.
She had nominated Forbes CanAssist to benefit from any funds raised on the day, which snowballed from first grade captain Andrew Hubbard's suggestion of a raffle into a big success.
That raffle quickly attracted a mass of donations from local businesses and individuals, and tickets sold quickly. Individuals and the Forbes Rugby Old Boys made cash donations.
The club also ordered special socks for the players, and not only the Forbes club members but also Dubbo Roos were happy to purchase them to wear on the day.
"We were a bit hesitant, but we reached out to Dubbo and asked if they could buy a few socks to wear through the game and they said we don't just want 15, we want the full squad in socks, so thank you Dubbo," Forbes Rugby Union Club president Rhys Woods said.
Woods paid tribute to Prior's lengthy commitment to the club, and to her support since he has taken over the president's role from her.
"All of us here today wish you all the best for your treatment and we look forward to welcoming you back upstairs in future," he said.
As Tracey's sister-in-law Judy Prior said, "we are so, so lucky to live in such a generous, generous town.
"I'd like to thank all those people who have sold raffle tickets, all those people who have donated so generously," she added.
"We've had people ringing, just putting money into the CanAssist account."
