The main flood peak along the Lachlan River is now downstream of Nanami and approaching Forbes.
Minor flooding is occurring along the Lachlan River at Nanami, Forbes, Cottons Weir and Jemalong. Moderate flooding is likely at Cottons Weir and Jemalong.
The Lachlan River at Nanami peaked at 8.95 metres Saturday morning and is currently at 8.75 metres and falling with minor flooding.
The Lachlan River at Forbes Iron Bridge is currently at 9.01 metres and rising with minor flooding. The Lachlan River at Forbes Iron Bridge is likely to peak near 9.10 metres during Sunday night into Monday with minor flooding.
The Lachlan River at Cottons Weir is currently at 5.08 metres and rising, with minor flooding. The Lachlan River at Cottons Weir is likely to peak near 5.30 metres during Monday with moderate flooding.
The Lachlan River at Jemalong Weir Downstream is currently at 7.42 metres and rising, with minor flooding. The Lachlan River at Jemalong Weir Downstream may reach 7.50 metres during Monday with moderate flooding.
FRIDAY
The Lachlan River is expected to reach moderate flood levels at Cottons Weir on Sunday and may reach moderate flood levels at Jemalong Weir on Monday.
On Friday morning the water was at 8.29 metres at the Iron Bridge in Forbes and rising.
The State Emergency Service flood bulletin said it was likely to reach the minor flood level of 8.8m in Forbes on Saturday, with a forecast height of 9.3 metres on Sunday morning.
Less than two inches of rain has fallen in the region this week but it's been enough in a sodden catchment to fill Wyangala Dam and see flows in the downstream tributaries including the Belubula and Boowra rivers.
On Friday morning the river was at 8.6m at Nanami - near Gooloogong - and rising with minor flooding, with the possibility of reaching the moderate flood level of 9.7m on Saturday.
At Cottons Weir the water was at 4.29 metres and rising with minor flooding, with the possibility of reaching 5.80 metres during Sunday with moderate flooding.
At the Iron Bridge in Forbes the water was 8.39m and rising with the expectation of minor flooding on the weekend.
Downstream of Forbes at Jemalong Weir the water was expected to exceed the minor flood level of 7.2m on Friday morning with the possibility of reaching the moderate flood level of 7.5m on Monday.
Wyangala Dam reached 101 per cent on Wednesday night with an anticipated 200 billion litres (gigalitres or GL) in inflows from the rain system.
The SES advises:
Nanami at minor flood level:
- Landholders adjacent to the river east and west of Gooloogong have access problems and low lying land start to become affected and Kangarooby Creek could flood Gooloogong-Cowra Road (Lachlan Valley Way).
If the river reaches moderate flood levels on Saturday:
- The approach road to the Paytens Bridge on the Bandon Eugowra Road may flood on the Eugowra side of the bridge;
- Gooloogong - Cowra Road (Lachlan Valley Way) may be impacted by flooding in various locations.
Forbes Iron Bridge at minor flood levels - during Saturday and Sunday:
- The Park on Lake Forbes floods including footpaths;
- Low lying areas adjacent to the river can flood; multiple roads area likely to be flooded including Gooloogong road at Dukes Crossing, Wirrinya Road at the Dog and Duck Crossing on Bundaburrah Creek, Grenfell road (Henry Lawson Way) at Muddy Lagoon.
- Caravans and campers need to move away from low lying areas.
Cottons Weir at minor flood level with the potential to reach moderate during Sunday August 29:
- A number of roads are flooded including the Forbes-Gooloogong road (Lachlan Valley Way) at Dukes Crossing and the Forbes-Old Grenfell road (Henry Lawson Way) at Muddy Lagoon/Bundaburrah Creek, New Grenfell Road at Bundaburrah Creek and the Escort Way - preventing access south and east between Forbes, Grenfell, Gooloogong and Eugowra. Alternative access available via the Newell Highway;
- Water may be across North Condobolin Road at "Little Plains".
Jemalong Weir at minor flood level with the potential to reach moderate flood level during Monday August 30:
- Farmers should move pumps and stock;
- Water will be across the Bedgerebong Road at Little Plains;
- Water will be crossing the Forbes-Condobolin Road at Jemalong homestead.
Forbes Shire Council advises a number of roads are already closed:

- PINNACLE ROAD - at Freemont
