The Agribusiness Today Mixed Farming Forum on Thursday, August 13 will give growers the opportunity to hear and discuss first-hand the latest developments in the cropping and livestock industries.
The forum will bring together a range of speakers looking at diverse issues such as tropical grass in a central west environment, future technologies in mixed farming systems, the current state of play for grain and livestock markets, the influencers in these markets and the outlooks.
It will be followed by a livestock and cropping field trip on Friday, August 14.
The field trip will travel to the Wirrinya trial site to examine lime and stubble projects, cereal and canola trials and managing mice in crops.
The focus will then turn to local farming family the Mattiske’s shearing shed to focus on developing more efficient livestock management systems.
Dr Karl Behrendt, Senior Lecturer in Agribusiness at Charles Sturt University said the two-day forum has been supported by many industry leaders and hopes to teach growers how to remain profitable in a changing environment.
“We’ve developed a partnership between CSU, Regional Development Australia Central West, Central West Local Land Services and Central West Farming Systems to conduct the two day forum and field trip,” Dr Behrendt said.
“We’ve tried to look out over the horizon at what the challenges will be and come back with some options, many of which embrace new technologies as agriculture starts to move through the 21st Century.”
“It’s an event not to be missed by any serious grain or livestock producer who has an interest on where their industries are heading and how to make it more profitable for today and into the future.”
