Forbes Rugby President's Lunch 2017

Champagne greeted guests as 810 men and women gathered to celebrate Forbes Rugby, raise funds and have a great day out.

This year the proceeds of what is known as “the Platypus fund” was shared between Forbes Running and Triathlon Club, Forbes Badminton Club, Forbes Toy Library and the Garland family, who also received Carmen Spry’s generous $1000 table prize.

Mental health organisation batyr received $10,000 as the beneficiary of the major auction fundraiser.

The prize included a 10-person gourmet dinner at Eat Your Greens Function Centre and 12 bottles of mixed Robert Oatley wines. 

A 10-person dinner at Ester Restaurant in Sydney, with guest Vince Sorrenti, was auctioned for $9500.

A painting by Rosie Johnston was auctioned for $6000, a framed mirror for $2200 and a Wallabies Guernsey went for $2000, all raising money for the Rugby Club.

Western-Sydney comic Vince Sorrenti entertained the well-behaved crowd as the 2017 guest speaker.

“Ninety-nine per cent of people would say he was the best one ever,” said co-event organiser Chris Sweeney. 

He said the successful event atmosphere, which aimed to celebrate Forbes Rugby Club sensibly and beautifully, got the thumbs up from security. 

“Security said it was the best function they had ever attended, there was not one minute amount of trouble.

“It’s a credit to everyone, I think that’s a big thing for the community in Forbes,” he said.

The sold-out event included a three-course meal, drinks and entertainment.

“It’s 800 people from many diverse backgrounds who all have a common interest.

“There is a connection back to the rugby club through every table. Rugby is a very community minded sport. 

“I thought it was all round the best one we have put on.”
