Red Bend Catholic College principal Stephen Dwyer said the class of 2020 have much to celebrate and are to be congratulated on what they have achieved with their results.
"They should feel a real sense of accomplishment and success in completing the HSC in this unprecedented year. It has been a most challenging year and the students have responded with dedication, resilience and adaptability," Mr Dwyer said.
"I am especially proud of the students and their outstanding effort that has led to this success. It is a credit to them in how they have navigated their final year at school," he said.
Thirty percent of the Red Bend Catholic College class of 2020 achieved a band 5 or 6 result in their chosen subject area which is a mark of 80 or above.
Within those that achieved these marks, there were nine students who are distinguished achievers with band 6 results.
The College Dux for 2020 is Hannah Mattiske.
"We are extremely proud of our students and what they have achieved across all levels of achievements," Mr Dwyer said.
The Advocate spoke to several students about some of their plans for the future and the challenges they faced this year.
For Claire Barrott and Emmie Searl, one of the greatest challenges they faced this year was the effects of Covid.
Claire said the lack of face - to - face lessons was one of the biggest challenges brought about, but it allowed them to keep a good work and life balance.
While this year brought about many challenges, Emmie said it has brought the year closer.
Both Claire and Emmie are hoping to get into the University of Newcastle next year.
Claire plans to study Nursing while Emmie plans to study Radiography.
For Ethan Hoswell, the move to an online platform due to the pandemic did increase the difficulty of learning some subjects such as maths or science.
These subjects were made slightly more difficult, Ethan said, because some of the practical lessons were unable to be undertaken at home.
Ethan plans to take a gap year next year before heading to the University of Wollongong to study Mining Engineering.
For Hannah Mattiske and Claudia Gorton the pandemic had a major affect on their studies this year.
Along with having to shift to an online forum for part of their study, Hannah and Claudia said that they missed out on other activities such as sporting events.
Claudia said it was just a crazy year that they're glad they made it through.
Claudia will be heading to the Wagga campus of Charles Sturt University to study Veterinary Technology next year.
Hannah plans to have a gap year before hopefully studying radiography or physiotherapy.
Antez Varghese said it was hard to stay on top of things this year from the lockdown and having to catch up.
He said while this year has been stressful in general for everyone, some stress was eased for him when he received early offers from the University of Sydney.
Antez is looking at studying Stenography, Radiography or Engineering next year.
Congratulations to all our Year 12 students on completing the HSC, best wishes for your future studies or work endeavours.
