A new multipurpose facility incorporating clubhouse, grandstand and events facility is the centrepiece of a proposed revised masterplan for Grinsted and South Circle ovals.
The proposal was presented to Forbes Shire councillors for consideration, and will be put on public exhibition for feedback from the wider community.
In a report to councillors, Director of Projects Paul Adams said the Grinsted Oval and South Circle masterplan had been brought forward for review following the progression of several related projects that highlighted the need to reassess the precinct's layout.
Under the revised plan, a centrally located multipurpose sports and community building would be constructed between Grinsted Oval and South Circle. The facility would include a new clubhouse, grandstand, changerooms, storage areas and event space.
"The revised layout has been developed through consultation with key user groups and seeks to improve functionality, spectator experience, event capability, accessibility and future infrastructure planning while retaining the character of the precinct," Mr Adams said in his report.
Since the original masterplan was adopted in 2023, other projects have advanced including the proposed clubhouse and grandstand redevelopment; proposed Grinsted Oval lighting project; future sporting infrastructure and parking requirements; as well as opportunities to improve shared use of facilities across sporting codes.
The proposed masterplan also includes: formal car parking provision; an extension of existing white picket fencing; relocation of cricket practice nets; retention of sporting field lighting arrangements; and consideration of the future location of the Bali Memorial.
The plan also references improved subsurface drainage and surface improvements to the cricket tables, as well as the area between the ovals.
Limited removal of trees is required to facilitate construction, the report said.
The reports says the team has been working with both rugby union and cricket clubs as it revised the plans.
The plans will be available at Forbes Shire Council's Town Hall offices and on its website under public exhibitions later this month.
